About the Super Mario Pipe sound

Down the pipe and gone. Nintendo shipped Super Mario Bros. in 1985 with an audio chip that had almost nothing to work with, so the warp cue is a single quick descending slide, over in about half a second. Decades later it is still legible to people who have never played the game. Meme editors adopted it as the standard exit noise, played whenever somebody leaves a voice call, deletes a message, or walks out of a conversation they themselves started. Treat it as the polite alternative to a door slam.

OriginThe pipe warp sound effect from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. (1985).
