Terms of Use

The rules for using this site, written so you can actually read them. If something here is unclear, ask rather than guess: the contact page goes to a person.

The Short Version

  • Playing and downloading sounds is free, and no account is required.
  • We do not own most of the clips on this site, so we cannot give you permission to use them. That permission is the rights holder's to give.
  • Personal use is fine. Commercial use of a clip is between you and whoever owns it.
  • If a clip is yours and you want it removed, the takedown page explains how, and those requests are handled first.
  • The site is provided as it is, with no promises that it will always work.

The rest of this page is the same thing at greater length. Using Bleepboard means you accept it.

What Bleepboard Is

Bleepboard is a free soundboard. It hosts short audio clips, mostly from internet culture, each on its own page with a written explanation of where the clip came from. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

The site is operated by Bleepboard, Office 36A, UFONE Tower, Blue Area, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Sounds, Copyright and Who Owns What

This is the part worth reading properly, because it is the part most soundboards are vague about.

The clips are not ours. Most sounds on this site originate in films, television, games, songs, streams and videos made by other people, and the rights in them stay with those people. Hosting a clip here does not transfer any rights to us, and it does not let us pass rights on to you. Anyone telling you a meme soundboard has made a clip royalty free is wrong.

Why the clips are here at all. Each sound sits on a page that identifies it, explains its origin and comments on how it is used. The clips are short, they are hosted for reference and commentary, and they are not a substitute for the work they came from. Whether that is permitted use depends on where you are and what the clip is, and it is a judgement a court makes, not a claim we get to assert.

"Free download" means free of charge. It does not mean free of copyright. The download button spares you a screen recorder. It does not hand you a licence.

What is ours. The written descriptions, the explainer articles, the site design, the code, the mascot and the artwork are Bleepboard's own work. Quote them with credit and a link. Do not scrape the corpus wholesale to fill somebody else's soundboard, which is the thing this site was built to be better than.

If a clip is yours. Send a takedown notice and it comes down. The DMCA and takedown page sets out exactly what a notice needs to contain. You do not need a lawyer to write one, and you will not get an argument from us about whether your own work is yours.

What You May Do With a Clip

Playing a sound on this site, downloading it for yourself, and using it privately with friends, in a Discord call or over a video you are editing for fun, is what the site is for and nobody here has a problem with it.

Beyond that, the honest answer is that it depends on the clip and it is your call to make. Putting a copyrighted sound into a monetised video, an advert, a product or anything else commercial is between you and the rights holder. Platforms run their own automated matching too, so a clip that is fine socially can still get a video muted or claimed. We cannot clear any of that for you, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Some things are not acceptable use of this site under any reading:

  • Using a clip to harass, threaten, impersonate or deceive somebody.
  • Presenting our written descriptions or articles as your own work, or republishing them at scale.
  • Automated scraping, bulk downloading, or anything else that treats the site as a free media pipe rather than a place people read.
  • Attempting to break, overload or work around the site's technical limits, or using it in a way that breaks the law where you are.

Embedding Buttons

Every sound page carries an embed code, and you are welcome to use it. The embedded player keeps a visible link back to the sound's page on this site, and that link is the arrangement: keep it, and the embed is free to use. Stripping the attribution and passing the player off as your own is not.

Embeds are provided as they are. If a clip is later removed after a takedown notice, the embed for it stops working, and that is a consequence of doing the right thing rather than a fault to report.

What We Do Not Promise

The site is provided as it is and as it happens to be available. We do not guarantee that it will be online, that every button will work, that a clip you used yesterday will still be here tomorrow, or that a page is free of mistakes.

We do try hard on that last one. Descriptions are researched and corrected when they turn out to be wrong, and a wrong fact is treated as a bug rather than a cosmetic issue. Even so, this is a site about internet folklore, where the record is often thin and sometimes contested, so treat a page here as a well-sourced account rather than the final word.

Sounds get removed sometimes, usually because a rights holder asked. There is no promise that any particular clip stays available, so if a sound matters to your work, keep your own copy.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Bleepboard is not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the site or of anything you downloaded from it, including how you chose to use a clip.

Links, Ads and Other People's Services

Pages here link out to sources, wikis, videos and articles, because that is what makes an origin story checkable. Those sites are not ours and we are not responsible for what they do.

This site carries advertising, which pays for hosting and for the time that goes into the write-ups. Ads are served by third parties who set their own cookies and identifiers, and the privacy policy explains what that means and how to control it.

Changes to These Terms

These terms will change as the site does. When they change materially, the effective date at the top of this page changes with them. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest signal, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the current version.

Questions

Anything about this page goes to dmca@bleepboard.com, or through the contact page, which routes the common requests for you.

This page describes how Bleepboard operates. It is not legal advice. If you need to know how a particular law applies to you or to a clip you want to use, ask a lawyer rather than a soundboard.
