About the Cingular AT&T Ringtone sound
Americans on Cingular heard this constantly, back when a carrier could still stamp its identity onto the handset itself. Cingular took the AT&T name in 2007 and the orange jack logo vanished, but the ringtone outlived the brand the way these things tend to. It turns up now in edits about the mid-2000s, filed alongside flip phones and nights-and-weekends minutes. There is no melody here worth humming. It is a chirpy little pattern engineered to cut through a coat pocket in a noisy room, and it does that job perfectly well.
