About the PlayStation Startup sound

Sony launched the original PlayStation in 1994 with a boot sequence that sounds less like a games console and more like a spacecraft coming online. That ethereal swell told a generation the disc had read successfully. Hearing it stutter, or arrive wrong, was genuinely dreadful: a bad boot meant a scratched disc, and a scratched disc meant a difficult conversation. It remains one of the most atmospheric startup sequences ever produced, and it introduced a machine that spent most of its life running football games.

OriginThe boot sequence from the original PlayStation (Sony, 1994).
