About the SIKE sound

The undo button for sincerity, and considerably older than the internet that adopted it. The technique is cruel and structurally perfect: build somebody up, let them accept the compliment, watch the pleasure register on their face, then take it back in one syllable. Playground negotiation has run on this for decades without once losing the power to make a person feel briefly and wonderfully foolish. Deploy it after a promise, a compliment, or an offer that seemed slightly too generous. They should have known. They never do.

OriginThe classic 'sike' reversal, meme-canonised.
