About the Nether Portal sound

Purple and warbling, with a faintly sick edge: the noise a Minecraft nether portal makes while it waits for you to step in and regret it. Stand nearby and the low wobbling hum fills the room, which the game fully intends, since it wants you uneasy before the loading screen even arrives. It gets under your skin. Builders complain about it endlessly and then put portals in their basements anyway. The clip is great for implying a doorway to somewhere worse: an open-plan office, a group chat, a second job.

OriginThe nether portal ambience from Minecraft.
