Soundboard
Discord Soundboard
Almost everyone who uses Discord can identify its sounds without ever having thought about them. The two-note blip when somebody joins a voice channel, the falling one when they leave, the soft knock of a message, the ping that means your name got used. What makes that set unusual is that it was built to be heard during a conversation rather than instead of one, so every tone is quiet, brief and pitched clear of the human voice. You register it and carry on talking.

About the Discord Soundboard
A server soundboard gets used for three things, roughly in that order of frequency. Reaction comes first, a clip landed on the end of somebody else's sentence, which is the voice-chat equivalent of replying with a GIF. Entrances come second, one sound fired the instant you connect so the channel knows who arrived without looking. Trolling comes third, and it is why moderators keep the permission switched off in some channels. A join blip played from a soundboard is indistinguishable from a real one, so it sends everybody to the member list for nothing.
Getting a sound in there takes one of two routes. The native one runs through Server Settings, then Soundboard, then Upload Sound, and Discord's own guide puts the ceiling at an MP3 no larger than 512 KB and no longer than five seconds, short enough that most clips need trimming first. Slots are limited per server and boosting unlocks more of them. Moderators decide who can fire them through the Use Soundboard and Use External Sounds role permissions, and a Nitro subscription lets you carry sounds you already have access to into other servers and into DM calls.
The second route skips the upload entirely. Send your browser audio into your microphone input with a virtual audio cable, VB-Cable or VoiceMeeter on Windows, BlackHole or Loopback on macOS, and anything on this site becomes playable in any call with no length limit and no slot to spend. Two warnings, both learned the hard way. Your own monitoring goes strange once the mic input is not a mic, so arrange a way to hear yourself first, and pull the volume down before you start, because soundboard clips are mastered far louder than a voice on a headset.
What sits on this board is the platform's own set plus the clips that keep getting uploaded to servers: reaction sounds, short memes and a few things chosen purely to irritate. Everything downloads as a free MP3 with no account, and each sound has its own page with a note on where it came from and an embed code if you want the button working on your own site.
Discord Soundboard FAQ
The questions people ask most about these sounds.
How do I add these to my server's soundboard?
Download the MP3 from any sound page, then open Server Settings, choose Soundboard and press Upload Sound. Give it a name and an emoji, and set the default volume lower than you think you need. You need the right permission on the server to add one, and the number of slots a server has depends on its boost level, so a busy server may need you to retire something before it takes a new clip.
Why does Discord refuse my upload?
Almost always length or size. Discord's guide caps a soundboard clip at five seconds and 512 KB as an MP3, and a lot of meme audio runs longer than that even when it feels instant. Trim the clip to the part that matters, re-export at a lower bitrate or in mono, and it will usually drop under the limit without sounding any worse through a voice channel.
Can I play a sound in a call without uploading it?
Yes, by routing browser audio into your microphone. On Windows that means VB-Cable or VoiceMeeter, on macOS BlackHole or Loopback: set the virtual device as your Discord input, play the button, and the call hears it. Nothing gets uploaded, so the five-second limit does not apply, but everyone hears exactly what your browser plays, including whatever else is open in another tab.
Can I use a sound from one server in another?
That is what Nitro's external sounds are for: a subscriber can use sounds they already have access to in any server or DM call. Without it you are limited to the sounds uploaded where you are, and a server can turn the whole feature off for a role or a channel. If a button works in one place and not another, check the permissions before assuming the file is broken.
Are the downloads free and the right size?
Free, with no signup and no app. The MP3s here are short clips rather than full tracks, so most of them go straight into a Discord soundboard slot without any editing. Check the length before uploading anyway, since five seconds is a harder limit than it sounds and a clip that runs to six will simply be refused.
